Three levels, not one
Saying "Odoo is localized for Peru" is true and insufficient. The standard provides a base: a chart of accounts aligned to the PCGE, taxes and document types. On top of that sit configuration decisions nobody can take on the company's behalf, and requirements that only an integration or a development covers.
What the standard provides
Chart of accounts structure, base taxes such as IGV (VAT), Peruvian document types, SUNAT catalogues and the general accounting logic of the ERP. It is a starting point: account detail, inventory and cost accounts and clearing accounts still need review.
What must be configured
- Establishments and series: which issuing point each document uses and how it is numbered.
- Operation types: taxable, exempt, non-taxable, export, non-domiciled suppliers.
- Detracciones (SPOT): which operations trigger the deposit, how it is recorded and reconciled against the certificate.
- Withholdings and perceptions: applicable regimes and their effect on document and journal entry.
- Credit and debit notes: reasons and accounting consequences.
- Exchange rate: source, frequency and consistent application across purchasing, sales and valuation.
What requires integration
Transmission of electronic documents to SUNAT and handling of its responses runs through the issuing service the company uses. Electronic dispatch guides depend on transport mode. Bank statements and reconciliation usually require integration per bank.
What usually requires development
Company-specific validations the standard does not contemplate, report formats demanded by a client or a parent company, and format work for specific statutory records. Each development is permanent maintenance, so configuration should be exhausted first.
SIRE and electronic books
SIRE is progressively replacing PLE for sales and purchase records, with SUNAT generating proposals from issued and received documents. Accounting work shifts from building the record to reconciling and explaining differences, which requires correctly typed documents, accurate dates and flagged documents identified before filing. Schedules and formats are set by SUNAT and change.
Recommended sequence
Chart of accounts and taxes first; then document types and series; then the commercial cycle that issues them; integrations last. Configuring issuance before deciding the journal entry is the short route to rework.
FAQ
Is the Peruvian localization included in Odoo?
There is a Peruvian localization module with chart of accounts, taxes and document types. It does not cover transmission to SUNAT, which requires integration, nor company-specific configuration decisions.
Does it work the same in Community and Enterprise?
The localization base exists in both, but several accounting and reconciliation features are Enterprise-only, which affects how much has to be developed.
How long does it take to get localization working?
For a single legal entity with standard documents, usually within the baseline implementation. Multiple establishments, special regimes or bank integrations extend it.
