What has not changed
Community remains licence-free with core functionality; Enterprise remains a per-user, per-application subscription with vendor support and an upgrade service. That structure is stable across versions.
What recent versions changed
AI capabilities distributed across applications, plus accounting and warehouse improvements, have widened the functional gap in precisely the areas where a company with formal accounting works daily. Availability depends on edition and hosting model, so it should be verified against current terms.
The honest calculation
Add three years of licence, hosting, environment maintenance hours, upgrades, backups and development of what is missing. Without an in-house technical team, the Community route usually ends up contracting that work, and the licence difference stops being the main variable.
Where Community still makes sense
