Bank reconciliation in Odoo for Peruvian companies
Bank reconciliation is where most Peruvian accounting teams lose days every month. In Odoo the work shifts from matching line by line to designing rules, and then only handling what the rules could not resolve.

Why it takes so long today
In most companies the statement arrives as a file, someone matches it against the ledger by eye, and the differences are investigated at the end of the month when the trail has gone cold. The volume is not the problem: the problem is that recurring movements consume the same attention as genuine exceptions.
What gets configured
Bank accounts and their journals, payment methods that distinguish transfer from cheque from cash, the statement import format your bank provides, and reconciliation rules. Peruvian banks differ in what they export, so the format is worth confirming before the project assumes automatic import.
Reconciliation rules
A rule recognises a movement by amount, reference, counterparty or description, and proposes or posts the matching entry. Good candidates: bank charges, interest, payroll transfers, commissions, recurring supplier payments. Each rule you add removes a category of line from the manual queue permanently.
Detracciones and the payment cycle
Deposits into the detracciones account are a recurring source of unreconciled lines when they are recorded as ordinary payments. Configured properly, the deposit, the supplier payment and the certificate reconcile against each other, and the balance in the account is verifiable at any point in the month rather than at year end.
Doing it weekly instead of monthly
The single largest improvement is not technical. Reconciling weekly keeps the exception queue short, keeps the context fresh, and means the close starts from a reconciled position instead of an investigation.
What remains manual
Partial payments, payments covering several documents, currency differences and errors made by the bank. These should be visible as a short list, not buried in a report — which is the point of absorbing everything else with rules.
If the same type of line appears unreconciled every month, it is a missing rule, not a workload problem.
Frequently asked questions
Can Odoo import statements automatically?
It depends on what your bank offers. File import is generally available; direct connections depend on the bank and the region. Confirm the format before the project assumes automation.
Does this work with several bank accounts and currencies?
Yes. Each account has its own journal, and currency differences post to the FX accounts configured for the company.
Who should own reconciliation?
Accounting, with rules maintained jointly with whoever configured them. Rules that nobody reviews slowly stop matching reality.
